1. Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra (Editors’ Choice)

best phones for audiophiles Check Price on Amazon

Right now, our absolute favorite Android phone is the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, which also leads our list of the best phones for audiophiles. The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra both feels and looks the high-end part. It stands toe-to-toe with the iPhone 13 Pro Max and 13 Pro.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra is armed with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, Android 12 operating system, 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. In fact, Samsung has made available four storage variants on the S22 Ultra: 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB. The base model ships with 8GB of RAM.

These specs make the S22 Ultra a lightning-fast, no-strings-attached phone that can do everything — and do it in style. Samsung has incorporated everything outstanding about the previous Galaxy S21 Ultra into Galaxy S22 Ultra and added a few enhanced impressive features making the S22 Ultra an eye-catching smartphone.

Samsung makes a big deal about the S21 Ultra’s cameras – and rightfully so. There are four camera setups on the rear: 108MP wide angle camera, 12MP ultra-wide sensor, and two 10MP telephoto lens. On the front, is an Auto-HDR 40MP camera. You get very good images even in low light conditions.

We appreciate that the Galaxy S22 Ultra can capture 8k videos at 24fps, and 4K at 60fps.

An A+ for the S22 Ultra’s sublime audio system.

Another massive win for the phone is its battery performance. With a capacity of 5,000 mAh, you get a day’s worth of usage after charging, however, this depends on usage.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra has ample color variants than we had envisaged. Phantom Black, Green, Phantom White, Pink Gold, and Burgundy are the colors you can choose from. That said, there are exclusive colors (Graphite, Red, and Sky Blue) which are available only through the Samsung website.

What else should we include? Samsung killed both the 3.5mm headphone jack and microSD card slot, but at least the phone works seamlessly with wireless, Bluetooth earbuds.

Price is often the problem. So, basically, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is one of the most high-priced phones you’ll find right now, especially taking the actual specs into consideration. But is the S22 Ultra worth the startling price? Well, yes.

This is the best Android Phone – and one of the best phones for audiophiles period.

best phones for audiophiles

Another outstanding phone for audiophiles worthy of note is the Apple iPhone 13 Pro Max. It is the best iPhone for audiophiles. The iPhone 13 Pro Max is for those who are already invested in the Apple ecosystem.

Apple’s iPhone 13 Pro Max plants its flag at the summit of smartphones. It hits a lot of the marks you’d want for a premium smartphone for music.

The iPhone 13 Pro Max is one of the first phones powered by Apple’s A15 Bionic chip, which is complemented by 6GB of RAM. Meanwhile, storage options include 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and, yes, 1TB.

It’s the cameras where the iPhone 13 Pro Max stands out the most against most phones on our list. The iPhone 13 Pro Max has four cameras, including a 12MP (wide)/13MP (telephoto)/5MP (ultrawide) triple array on the back and a 12MP selfie sensor on front.

It’s worth adding, too, that the 13 Pro Max boasts a 120Hz ProMotion display.

Just as importantly, build quality is reassuringly good. This is a phone that serves up power, speed and other impressive performance chops in a gorgeous chassis.

The iPhone 13 Pro Max handles many tasks like a champ, as well.

As for audio, you’d be equally impressed. The iPhone 13 Pro Max’s audio is respectable.

How about the Touch ID? Well, there isn’t one really.

Elsewhere, it features a remarkable battery life and debatably the best you’d find on a smartphone. If you’re looking for a phone that can last all day, this is it.

The iPhone 13 Pro Max is a huge phone and an expensive one, so it won’t appeal to many — but if money is no object, and you want the best iPhone for audiophiles, the Apple iPhone 13 Pro Max is the way to go right now.

3. LG V60 ThinQ

best phones for audiophiles

Check Price on Amazon

The LG V60 ThinQ is one of the best phones for audiophiles.

Audio on the LG V60 is impressive and well balanced. Volume levels progress slickly when you adjust the volume. The phone’s highest volume is remarkable, too.

LG was smart to put a high-quality DAC (digital-to-analog) converter which makes the audio even better.

Some notable features of the phone include DTS:X 3D Surround mode, a parametric EQ, and a digital filter which works like an EQ.

It worth noting that the LG V60 ThinQ has a headphone jack even when most first-rate phones lack it.

On another important front, it’s juiced up with a Snapdragon 865 processor, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage.

With regard to audio quality, the V60 is the best. In other departments, however, the phone lags slightly behind high-end phones like the OnePlus 9 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra, or iPhone 12 Pro.

You may notice an insignificant sound compression when the volume is set at max.

Elsewhere, the V60’s tonal reproduction isn’t the best.

Aside from audio, another massive win for the LG V60 ThinQ is its battery performance. LG packed in a reasonable 5000 mAh of battery capacity into the V60’s chassis. Roughly speaking, you’re looking at about two days of battery life.

Overall, the LG V60 ThinQ remains one of the best phones for audiophiles.

PROS

  • Outstanding audio
  • Has a headphone jack
  • First-rate EQ features
  • Excellent volume performance
  • Impressive battery life

CONS

  • Tonal reproduction could be better

4. Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra

best phones for audiophiles

Check Price on Amazon

The Samsung Galaxy 21 Ultra (with Snapdragon processor) is one of the best phones for audiophiles.

A big part of the Galaxy S21 Ultra’s appeal is its display. It delivers a stunning picture quality with its 120Hz refresh rate. The screen is very bright, too.

Audio from the S21 Ultra’s two AKG speakers (one top side-firing and one bottom side-firing) is loud, clean and rich. It is built on a Dolby Atmos technology.

Its build quality is reassuringly good.

The S21 Ultra is super fast thanks to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 chipset tucked inside it. With the impressive chipset and 12GB or 16GB of RAM tucked inside the Galaxy S21 Ultra, the smartphone truly delivers.

Weighing in at 0.50 pound (227g), the S21 Ultra isn’t the lightest smartphone in its class. It’s slightly heavier than the Apple iPhone 12 Pro (189g) and OnePlus 8 Pro (199 g).

Meanwhile, the phone comes in two major colours: Phantom Black and the attention-seeking Phantom Silver. There are other colours, nonetheless, including Phantom Brown, Phantom Titanium and Phantom Navy.

Another feature worth highlighting is the phone’s cameras. They are outstanding. The rear holds a 108MP (wide) main camera, 12MP (ultra wide) camera, 10MP (telephoto) lens with 3x zoom technology, and another 10MP telephoto lens, this time with a 10x zoom unlike the Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max which manages 2.5x optical zoom. The S21 Ultra’s 40MP selfie camera is excellent as well.

If you want plenty of storage, the Samsung S21 Ultra is a good choice. Samsung has made available three storage variants on the S21 Ultra: 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB. The base model ships with 12GB of RAM. Need more RAM? Well, there is a 16GB RAM variant which costs even more.

It has its flaws (which phone hasn’t?). However, the downsides are few and far between. You won’t find a microSD card slot. Also missing on the Galaxy S21 Ultra is a charger in the box — you won’t find this on most smartphones like the Xiaomi Mi 11 and iPhone 12 Pro right now.

With the 5000 mAh battery tucked inside the S21 Ultra, you may likely get an all-day battery performance, however, this depends on usage. Other smartphones like the Asus ROG Phone 5 have moved past the 24-hour battery life and are racing towards a 3-day mark.

Given its class-leading audio, solid specs and impressive performance chops, the Samsung S21 Ultra remains our Editors’ Choice for the best phone for audiophiles.

PROS

  • Impressive AMOLED display
  • Excellent audio
  • Super fast performance
  • 120Hz refresh rate
  • Fantastic pen integration
  • Very good cameras

5. Google Pixel 6

best phones for audiophiles

Check Price on Amazon

Google is stepping up to the plate with regard to churning out impressive smartphones. The Google Pixel 6 is one of Google’s best phones and it ranks very high for overall performance.

New to the smartphone is the Google Tensor chip. The phone comes equipped with Android 12 OS. You won’t have problems receiving updates on the Pixel 6.

An A+ for the Google Pixel 6’s performance. Much of that dazzling performance is thanks to its solid Tensor processor and 8GB RAM combination. The Google Pixel 6’s impressive performance puts it on a par with elite Android phones such as Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra, and OnePlus 9 Pro.

128GB and 256GB are the two storage variants of the Google Pixel 6. As far as RAM goes, you get 8GB. All variants of the Pixel 6 ship with 8GB of RAM.

If you planned steering clear of Google smartphones because of the not-so-outstanding screen quality of previous models (the Pixel 4, specifically), please have a rethink because the Pixel 6’s 90Hz screen boasts sharper pictures which look a lot more natural. The Google Pixel 6 has an excellent 6.4-inch AMOLED screen.

Another massive win for the Pixel 6 is its cameras. The cameras are outstanding. In fact, this is one area the Google Pixel 6 truly shines. The Pixel 6 images provide natural colour and good detail. The Pixel 6 has three cameras, including a 50MP sensor, 12MP ultrawide angle on the back and an 8MP selfie sensor on front.

The only minor “but” here is the absence of a charger in the box.

Tucked inside the Pixel 6 is a 4614mAh battery, enduring for 8 hours depending on usage. If you want a better battery performance, then look in the direction of the Google Pixel 6 Pro which boasts a 5003mAh battery.

So, put superfast speed, impressive audio, solid internals, outstanding cameras, and an excellent display together and you get a knockout phone for listening to music.

PROS

  • Sleek design
  • Improved cameras
  • Fast charging support
  • Impressive AI features
  • Good audio
  • Excellent value for money

CONS

  • No telephoto camera

6. One Plus 10 Pro

best phones for audiophiles

Suddenly feeling like your OnePlus 9 Pro is a bit old? The Chinese phone maker has replaced it in the range with the OnePlus 10 Pro. The OnePlus 10 Pro is not going to be a hit with everyone, but, oh, man, it is one of the best Android phones on the market right now.

Like its predecessor, the OnePlus 10 Pro has a very gorgeous 6.7-inch, 120Hz display.

The OnePlus 10 Pro is loaded up the impressive Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, 8GB or 12GB of RAM, and OnePlus’ version of Android 12. The base model ships with 128GB of storage. You can also opt for models equipped with 256GB or 512GB of storage.

You’ll find three rear cameras on the 10 Pro, including a 48MP main camera, 50MP ultrawide, and 8MP telephoto sensor. The front holds a 32MP selfie sensor. For raw photography power, the cameras are good, but lag slightly behind the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, Google Pixel 6 Pro, and the iPhone 13 Pro Max.

A minor but here, is mostly to do with the unavailability of 5G on the AT&T’s 5G network. Support for 5G on AT&T may or may not come in the future.

On the plus side, the OnePlus 10’s 5,000mAh battery life is fantastic. It will certainly last you through a full day of web browsing, calls, and other light use without visiting a wall plug. Then there’s support for fast charging. Plus, you get a charger in the box.

Overall, this is the best OnePlus phone – and one of the best Android phones period. If you want a Pro phone for music without breaking the bank, the OnePlus 10 Pro is your best bet.

PROS

  • First-rate design
  • Beautiful display
  • Excellent cameras
  • Outstanding battery life

7. OnePlus 9 Pro

best phones for audiophiles

Another impressive smartphone with respectable audio is the OnePlus 9 Pro.

The 9 Pro is stacked with so much power. But it also costs a lot more. It comes with 12GB of RAM and Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor. You can opt for the base model which is equipped with 8GB of RAM.

The 8GB variant ships with 128GB of storage, while the 12GB model comes with 256GB of storage.

The OnePlus 9 Pro’s 120Hz AMOLED display is superb. And it’s amazingly bright and colorful to boot. The refresh rate is even better than the Apple iPhone 12’s 60 Hz refresh rate.

Sunlight visibility is impressive, too.

The OnePlus 9 Pro’s audio is loud, clean and rich.

Camera selection on the 9 Pro is generous. In fact, the 9 Pro’s greatest upgrade is in the camera department.  The incredible cameras are one of the outstanding qualities of the OnePlus 9 Pro.

Color reproduction and accuracy are fantastic, thanks to OnePlus’ collaboration with Hasselblad. Pictures taken in low-light look sharp and detailed, without the clarity looking forced or artificial.

Aside from the photography capabilities, the OnePlus 9 Pro can capture 8K video at up to 30fps. You can also record in 4K at 30, 60 or 120fps.

Our only quibble, and this remains minor, is that the 9 Pro has no microSD support.

Overall, the OnePlus 9 Pro is still one of the best phones for audiophiles.

PROS

  • First-rate design
  • Excellent cameras
  • Very fast wired and wireless charging
  • Excellent sound system

8. Apple iPhone 11 Pro

best phones for audiophiles

Check Price on Amazon

The Apple iPhone 11 Pro is the best phone for audiophiles who are accustomed to using iPhones.

One of the outstanding features of the iPhone 11 Pro is its excellent audio quality. The iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max, and the iPhone 11 have the same fantastic audio specs.

Like the Razer Phone 2, the iPhone 11 Pro’s audio is built on a Dolby Atmos technology. Apple claims that this technology makes sound move “around you in 3D space.”

But the cherry on top of this package is the spatial audio which gives you a theatre-like surround sound feel. You get a wider, more expansive sound quality.

You won’t find a headphone jack on the iPhone 11 Pro. There is a Lightning port, however it lacks an analog audio output. Listening to music via Apple’s wireless H1 or W1 powered heaphones, and AirPods Pro is a joy.

The iPhone 11 Pro offers plenty of storage space for storing audio and video. 64GB, 256GB, and 512GB are storage options available.

Finally, battery life is incredible – Apple isn’t skimping on the iPhone 11 Pro’s battery performance. You’d get a full-day battery life.

We highly recommend the Apple iPhone 11 Pro as one of the best phones for audiophiles.

9. Google Pixel 4

best phones for audiophiles

Check Price on Amazon

The Google Pixel 4 is a fast and durable phone for anyone fascinated by good audio. It is especially for those on a strict and limited budget, but still want a certain level of performance.

Its internals are nothing to scoff at – Snapdragon 855 processor, 6GB of RAM and 64GB or 128GB of storage.

The display looks fine, but is nothing mind-blowing.

It offers excellent performance at a price point that’s a lot more affordable.

Elsewhere, the Pixel 4 comes with a 12.2-megapixel wide-angle sensor, as well as a 16-megapixel telephoto lens.

For audio, the Pixel 4’s dual stereo speakers deliver sound that is clean and rich.

Face Unlock using 3D face recognition technology, Motion Sense which tracks motions around the Pixel 4, excellent Google Assistance integration are features worth highlighting.

The Pixel 4’s 2800 mAh battery will last up to 14 hours on a single charge depending on usage.

Truth be told, the Pixel 4 might not be the prettiest or most powerful phone out there, but for audiophiles looking for a phone that won’t gobble up their entire stimulus check, this is an excellent combo of power and affordability that’s hard to pass up.
