1. MSI GS66 Stealth (Editors’ Choice)

best laptops for obs streaming

Check Price on Amazon

It’s impossible to argue that the MSI GS66 Stealth isn’t one of the best gaming laptops in the world: it’s hugely powerful under the hood, and outwardly classy. It is the best laptop for OBS streaming.

The combination of Nvidia RTX 3080 and Intel Core i7-10850H make great bedfellows, making the MSI GS66 an impressive laptop for gaming. The 16GB of RAM on this outstanding gaming rig means that multitasking and playing demanding blockbusters, even at maxed-out settings barely slow things down.

On another important front, the GS66 Stealth’s Full HD display boasts an impressive 240Hz refresh rate and 3ms response rate. There are configurations with the same response time, however, with a 300Hz refresh rate.

That said, we feel less thrilled by the MSI GS66’s display brightness, which could be better.

In terms of physical size and weight, the GS66 Stealth (14.2 inches and 4.5 pounds) is a lightweight and easy travel companion. For comparison’s sake, the Gigabyte Aorus 5 (14.2 inches and 4.85 pounds), and Dell G5 15 SE (14.4 inches and 5.51 pounds) are heavier.

A respectable set of ports are located on either side of the laptop’s chassis. The right side features two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports, a USB 3.2 Gen Type-C port, an input for Gigabit Ethernet and a headset jack. The left side holds another USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A port, a Thunderbolt 3 port, an HDMI 2.0 port and the power port.

Let’s not forget the MSI GS66 Stealth’s sublime audio system. The speakers on either side of the laptop offer audio that is loud, clean and rich.

A notable performance chop worth mentioning is the Reflex which reduces latency with the help of G-Sync tech.

The GS66 Stealth can offer framerates as high as 93 fps at 1080p.

We are impressed by MSI’s CoolerBoost technology which takes care of cooling GS66 Stealth’s internals. This technology does not remove heat completely, though.

The GS66 Stealth delivers strong battery life. You should get at least 6 hours on a charge. For superior battery power, consider the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 or Asus ROG Strix Scar III.

If you need a thin and light gaming laptop with solid internals, this is it. The MSI GS66 Stealth is highly recommended.

PROS

  • Exceptional gaming performance
  • Fast 300Hz display
  • Sturdy
  • Sleek design
  • Good battery life

CONS

  • Display brightness could be improved

2. Asus ROG Zephyrus G14

best laptops for obs streaming

Check Price on Amazon

The Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 is a capable gaming laptop that packs tons of performance at a relatively affordable price.

Wielding an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 GPU, 16GB of RAM, 1TB of storage and AMD’s Ryzen 9 4900HS processor, it stacks up nicely to the competition. The base model ships with Ryzen 9-4900HS CPU, Nvidia GTX 1650 GPU, 8GG of RAM and 512GB SSD.

You can upgrade to the ROG Zephyrus G15 which sports GeForce RTX 3080 GPU and AMD Ryzen 9 5900HS CPU.

At 3.53 pounds, with a 12.76 x 8.74 x 0.70-inch chassis, the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 is arguably one of the lightest and smallest gaming laptops you can buy now.

You’ll be hard-pressed to use all the ports found along the Zephyrus G14’s frame. It has a good selection of ports for gaming and streaming. On the left there’s one USB-C port, and HDMI 2.0b port, a DisplayPort, plus an audio/mic port. While the right side has two USB 3.0 ports, a USB Type-C port and a Kensington lock slot.

With regard to gaming performance, the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 can blaze through AAA games at the highest settings just like Asus ROG Strix Scar III, MSI GL75, and Dell G7 15.

What else should we include? Thermal management is spot on. Unlike the Lenovo Legion Y545 and Dell G5 15 SE, the Zephyrus G14 does not run hot while gaming. You’ll find lots of ventilation grilles on the laptop.

However, there are some trade-offs. You won’t find a webcam on the Zephyrus G14. We recommend getting an external webcam if you’d like to stream via Twitch.

You are ultimately getting a gaming laptop from Asus that can last long enough to get some real gaming done. Roughly speaking, you’re looking at about 12 hours of battery life as configured from Asus.

Given its impressive specs and solid performance, the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 is one of the best laptops for OBS streaming.

PROS

  • Very good gaming performance
  • Excellent battery life
  • Great audio
  • Cool design
  • Fast display

CONS

  • No webcam
  • Keyboard backlighting could be better

3. Asus TUF A15

best laptops for obs streaming

Check Price on Amazon

If you’re on a budget and want an affordable laptop for OBS streaming, this is it. The Asus TUF A15 stacks up nicely to the competition.

Build quality is reassuringly good across the range.

It pairs the excellent AMD Ryzen 4000H mobile processors with an equally impressive Nvidia RTX 2060 graphics card.

The ASUS TUF A15’s credentials are further established with a 15.6-inch 1080p display with 144Hz refresh rate. There’s a variant with a 60Hz refresh rate.

There are two colour choices you could choose from: Bonfire Black and Fortress Gray.

You’ll find all the ports that matter on the ASUS TUF A15. The left flank holds two standard USB ports, a USB-C port, an Ethernet port, a full-size HDMI out, and a power port. The opposite side has another standard USB port.

The biggest bummer is the noise coming from the fans during gaming. But get this: the fans keep the laptop cool. If the noise gives you pause, you can use the Silent mode, however, the performance will drop.

Here is a laptop that scores points not only for its unconventional internals but also for its battery life. Asus packed in a reasonable 90 watt-hours of battery capacity into the TUF A15’s chassis. Roughly speaking, you’re looking at about 13 hours of battery life.

So, basically, if you’re looking for an affordable gaming laptop with a solid build quality and performance, the ASUS TUF A15 should be near the top of your list.

PROS

  • Good AMD processors
  • Great bang for the buck
  • Excellent battery life

CONS

  • Loud fans

Asus TUF A15 Key Specifications

Display: 15.6-inch IPS 144Hz 1920 x 1080 pixels

4. MSI GL75 Gaming Laptop

best laptops for obs streaming

Check Price on Amazon

Another outstanding gaming laptop for OBS streaming worth mentioning is the MSI GL75. It is capable enough for anyone who wants to stream, play games, and use it for daily computing task without problems.

Its display is pretty good with excellent brightness and contrast ratio. Viewing angles are good, too.

The MSI GL75 pairs an eighth-generation Intel Core i7-9750H processor with 512GB of storage, 16GB of RAM, and Nvidia RTX 2060 graphics. Need more storage? Then opt for the configuration with Intel Core i7-9750H processor, 16GB of RAM, NVidia GTX 1660 Ti graphics and 256GB SSD + 1TB HDD.

On the other hand, if you’ve got deep pockets, you can also upgrade to one with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti graphics, paired with 2TB PCIe SSD and 1TB HDD These configurations (except the RTX 2060 version) have the same 144Hz Full HD display.

The MSI GL75 ranks very high for its gaming performance.

Port selection is otherwise top-notch. On the MSI GL75’s left edge, you’ll find an HDMI port, a Mini DisplayPort, a USB Type-A 3.1 (Gen 1) port, a USB Type-C 3.1 (Gen. 2) port, and two audio jacks – one for a mic, and another for headphones. The right edge hosts a power plug, two USB Type-A 3.1 (Gen 1) ports and an SD card reader.

It’s hard to miss the vents that line the four sides. So you need not worry about cooling. The MSI GL75 has a good cooling setup.

Then, there are the bottom-firing speakers on MSI GL75 which pump out clear sound.

Battery life is just average, so don’t expect its runtimes to stretch into the double figures without taking a booster pack along for the ride.

The MSI GL75’s largest downfall, however, is likely going to come down to the fans. They serve a good purpose, but they can get loud during gaming.

There’s no getting around the fact that the MSI GL75 still remains an excellent laptop for OBS streaming.

PROS

  • Good display
  • Impressive gaming performance
  • Excellent screen refresh rate
  • Good pricing options
  • Very good cooling system
  • Good keyboard with decent travel

CONS

  • Average battery life
  • Noisy fans

5. Acer Predator Helios 300

best laptops for obs streaming

Check Price on Amazon

The Acer Predator Helios 300 has all the bells and whistles of a good gaming laptop.

It pairs an Intel Core i7-9750H processor with 512GB SSD storage and 16GB of RAM. We’re impressed with Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 1660 Ti GPU tucked inside the Acer Predator Helios 300 — this is surprising given the price of the laptop.

There are configurations with GeForce RTX 2060 graphics and 512GB SSD. You’ll also find models with GEForce RTX 2070 paired with 32GB of storage. The good news doesn’t end there. The Helios 300’s 144Hz refresh rate is competitive with what many first-rate gaming rigs offer.

The display boasts thin side bezels which are thinner than what some gaming laptops in the price range parade. The top and bottom bezels are not thin, sadly.

The Acer Predator Helios 300 ships with Acer’s PredatorSense software suite which allows you to monitor and tweak temperature, fan, and other gaming features.

Every port you could reasonably expect is on the Helios 300. The right edge holds a USB 3.0 port, a USB 3.1 Type-C port, HDMI, and a mini DisplayPort connection. The left side features two USB 3.0 ports, a headset jack, and an Ethernet jack.

Is the laptop a treasure trove of world firsts? No. That said, its internals are solid enough for OBS streaming.

Limited storage options aside, our only qualm with the Helios 300 is its battery life. This is expected. Even so, you should get no less than three full hours of life from it between charges – potentially even more if you don’t use it heavily.

The Acer Predator Helios 300 remains one of the best laptops for OBS streaming.

PROS

  • Good refresh rate
  • Solid performance
  • Excellent 144Hz display

6. Apple MacBook Air (M1, 2020)

best laptops for obs streaming

Check Price on Amazon

Apple has made the new MacBook Air a lot better than previous models with improved internals, storage, and keyboard. The laptop touts a decent 2560 x 1600-pixel Retina display.

Made of aluminum and powered by macOS Catalina operating system and Apple’s M1 chipset, the 2020 MacBook Air can handle typical day-to-day streaming tasks effortlessly.

With the 2020 MacBook Air, you get up 16GB of RAM. The entry-level configuration ships with 8GB of RAM, 256GB storage, Apple’s M1 chip, and an 8-core GPU.

In terms of weight, the MacBook Air is pretty much lightweight. No problems hauling the MacBook Air (11.9 x 8.36 x 0.63 inches, 2.8 pounds) in the backpack going to and from school or work.

Gold, Silver, and Space Gray are the three beautiful colour versions of the MacBook Air. Your choice comes down to personal preference.

The laptop boasts two USB-C Thunderbolt 3 ports on the left and a headphone jack on the right. How about the microSD card reader? Well, there isn’t one really.

We’d be lying if we said you’d be falling off your chair with excitement at the MacBook Air’s battery life. However, its battery life is just OK. In fact its battery life is a notable improvement over previous models. You should get at least 9 hours of productive work out of the laptop when it is not plugged in.

There’s no getting around the fact that the new MacBook Air still remains an excellent laptop given its decent specs.

So, if you’re looking for an affordable MacBook, then buy the Apple MacBook Air. It is one of the best laptops for OBS streaming.

7. Lenovo Legion Y7000

best laptops for obs streaming

Check Price on Amazon

Elegant design, beautiful display, superfast processors, and a solid overall performance are the hallmarks of the Legion Y7000.

The Lenovo Legion Y7000 is very fast thanks to the combination of Intel Core i7-8750H processor, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060, 16GB of RAM, a combination of 1TB HDD and 256 SSD of storage it is shipped with.

The laptop is 9.15 pounds and has a 10.2 x 14.88 x 0.87-inch footprint.

Every port you could reasonably expect is on this powerful laptop. The back holds most of the ports including one USB 3.1 port, one USB Type-C port, one HDMI port, a Mini DisplayPort, power jack, a Kensington lock slot and an Ethernet port.  The right edge has a single USB 3.1 port, while an audio connection and a USB 3.1 port are on the left side of the laptop.

As with most powerful gaming laptops, it will not last you through a full day of streaming and other CPU-intensive tasks without visiting a wall plug. You should get at least 5 hours per charge.

If you use the laptop for light tasks only, then the Lenovo Legion Y7000’s battery will last even longer on a single charge. Still, we recommend moving with your power pack if you intend using the laptop for extended periods.

The biggest drawback here is the poor audio quality. Nonetheless, we don’t see this as a red flag.

PROS

  • Colourful display
  • Battery life is OK
  • Sleek, stylish design
  • Impressive graphics and processor

CONS

  • Sound quality isn’t the best

If you’re already invested in the Apple ecosystem, the MacBook Pro is your best bet.

The MacBook Pro is a perfect fit for anyone who needs a high-end, ultra-powerful laptop capable of taking on both simple and processor-intensive computing tasks.

The laptop’s display is excellent and crisp.

Aside from handling your day-to-day computing tasks, the laptop is also suitable for gaming.

Audio on the MacBook Pro is unsurprisingly outstanding. The speakers offer the same amazing sound quality as the MacBook Air. This is good news for anyone who digs good sound.

The MacBook Pros’ RAM uses more power than the previous models.

Apple isn’t skimping on the battery with the MacBook Pro. Apple has added a battery strong enough to power the MacBook Pro.  You should get more than 10 hours out of the MacBook Pro without having to visit a wall plug.

The MacBook Pro has a super-responsive touchpad. Apple nailed the touchpad. It remains one of the best touchpads on the market.

Keyboard is decent. The butterfly-style keys have been tweaked and are quieter, thanks to a silicon element beneath each keycap – so no more clacky sounds.

9. Razer Blade Pro 17

best laptops for obs streaming

Check Price on Amazon

The Razer Blade Pro 17 has a sharp, beautiful 17.3-inch Full HD display with a 144Hz refresh rate which is praiseworthy.

This is not where the good news ends. There are other nice details, too: the Razer Blade Pro 17 comes with a solid combination of 9th Gen Intel Core i7-9750H processor and Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Max-Q graphics, which guarantees nothing but the best streaming experience.

The Full HD model is equipped with and 512GB PCle NVMe storage which is upgradable to 2TB SSD. Both Full HD and 4K (UHD) models have 16GB of RAM.

Port selection on the Razer Blade Pro 17 is admirable. The left side holds two USB 3.2 Type-A Gen 2 ports, one USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 port. On the right side, you’ll find one USB 3.2 Type-A Gen 2 port, a headphone jack, an HDMI port, a provision for powering the laptop, an Ethernet port.

The best part of the port setup is the inclusion of an SD card reader. What is special about that? Well, we are impressed by the SD card reader because it facilitates UHS-III transfers at the speed of light.

Like some good gaming laptops on the market, the Razer Blade Pro 17 sports a responsive keyboard. The only major criticism we have concerning the keyboard has to do with up arrow key placement; which is between the shift keys and the forward key. You may trip up on it from time to time when using the keyboard.

That said, it lacks an important feature which many modern gaming laptops in the same league have, and that is a G-Sync feature. It is a shame, but not a deal breaker.

The minor gripe aside, the Razer Blade Pro 17 is strongly recommended as one of the best laptops for OBS streaming.

PROS

  • Durable
  • Excellent 144Hz display
  • Commendable design

CONS

  • Expensive

10. Acer Predator Triton 500

best laptops for obs streaming

Check Price on Amazon

The Acer Predator Triton 500 is one of the thinnest gaming laptops you can get your hands at 0.7 inches. It is quite light as well, weighing 4.41 pounds. This means moving the Triton 500 around is easy.

Entry-level model comes with Intel Core i7 processor and a full-fat 512GB SSD storage plus 16GB of RAM. The GPU which is the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 is just OK for playing most games even at max settings.

Gamers in the UK can access an even more powerful version of the Acer Predator Triton 500 which is powered by Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 GPU. The more powerful variant has 32GB of RAM and 1TB SSD.

We dig the beautiful display which has a 144Hz refresh rate.

Most gaming laptops get hot after a while. But not to worry as there are air vents at four different locations and fans on the laptop.

As for ports, there are more than enough on this gaming beast. You get three USB 3.1 ports, one Thunderbolt 3 port, one HDMI 2.0 port, and of course, a microphone and headphone jack.

If you enjoy tweaking things a little, the Acer Predator Triton 500’s keyboard backlights colours can be changed. The GPU can be overclocked, too.

A full charge typically buys around 5 hours on a single change, during gaming. While this isn’t the best, it is not a deal breaker either.

By and large, if you’re looking for a good laptop for OBS streaming, the Acer Predator Triton 500 should be near the top your list.
