The Razer Blade Pro 17 is the best laptop for drone video editing and our Editors’ Choice.

It has a sharp, beautiful 17.3-inch Full HD display with a 144Hz refresh rate which is praiseworthy.

This is not where the good news ends. There are other nice details, too: the Razer Blade Pro 17 comes with a solid combination of 9th Gen Intel Core i7-9750H processor and Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Max-Q graphics, which makes video editing a joy.

The Razer Pro 17 is loaded up with an admirable port selection. The left side holds two USB 3.2 Type-A Gen 2 ports, one USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 port. On the right side, you’ll find one USB 3.2 Type-A Gen 2 port, a headphone jack, an HDMI port, a provision for powering the laptop, an Ethernet port.

The Full HD model is equipped with and 512GB PCle NVMe storage which is upgradable to 2TB SSD. Both Full HD and 4K (UHD) models have 16GB of RAM.

The best part of the port setup is the inclusion of an SD card reader. What is special about that? Well, we are impressed by the SD card reader because it facilitates UHS-III transfers at the speed of light.

Like some good gaming laptops on the market, the Razer Blade Pro 17 sports a responsive keyboard. The only major criticism we have concerning the keyboard has to do with up arrow key placement; which is between the shift keys and the forward key. You may trip up on it from time to time when using the keyboard.

All in all, the Razer Blade Pro 17 remains the best laptop for drone video editing.

The Dell XPS 15 sports a similar design as the XPS 13, however, it is larger.

It ships with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Max-Q graphics. CPU variants include: an Intel Core i5, i7, and i9.

With the Core i7 and Core i9 variants, you can do your drone video editing programs without problems.

One of the main appeals of the Dell XPS 15 2-in-1 is the sensor hub which enhances the performance of the machine by boosting frequencies. The sensor hub also assists in checking the cooling system.

The  XPS 15 weighs in at 4.3 pounds making it lighter than the Acer Predator Helios 300 (5.07 pounds), Alienware Area 51m (8.54 pounds), and Lenovo Legion Y740 (6.4 pounds).

For cooling, the XPS 15 has a vent situated at the back for taking out heat generated by the laptop during use. The hinges allow you flip it 360 degrees into tablet or tent mode like the HP Spectre x360, Asus Chromebook Flip C434 and Lenovo Yoga C930.

Despite its size, you get an assortment of ports: two Thunderbolt 3 and two USB-C 3.1 ports. These ports support charging. Furthermore, there is a microSD card reader and headphone jack.

If you prefer gaming laptops with at least one USB-A port, well you won’t find it on the Dell XPS 15 2-in-1. If you’re so particular about USB-A ports, then you may have to consider settling for the ASUS ROG Zephyrus GA502 which has three USB Type-A ports.

As far as battery performance goes, you get approximately 5 hours of use, although the manufacturer claims the XPS 15 can last more than 10 hours.

If you are a multimedia pro, the Dell XPS 15 is worth considering, and remains one of the best laptops for drone video editing.

The Apple MacBook Pro meets the needs of creatives and anyone who needs a high-end, ultra-powerful laptop that ticks all the boxes, especially when it comes to drone video editing.

The core i5 model of the 13-inch MacBook Pro with features 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. If that isn’t good enough for you, you can pick up the 16GB RAM and 512 GB storage model. That said, we recommend the core i7 variant for drone video editing.

The core i9-based 15-inch model is faster and more expensive than the core i7. For the 15-inch model, you get 32GB of RAM and an amazingly fast 2TB of storage. If you can shell out a few more dollars, you get an extra 2TB of storage.

Even when running processor-intensive tasks like editing a 4K video, the 2018 MacBook Pro with Touch Bar does an excellent job without any noticeable CPU throttling.

As for battery performance, you could get a little above 10 hours out of the MacBook Pro with Touch Bar without having to visit a wall plug.

It is kitted out with 32GB of Intel Core i7-8750H processor, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 graphics.  The manufacture was smart to put a 32GB RAM and 1TB SSD storage into the MSI GS65 Stealth Thin.

The Blade Stealth is lightweight at 4.14 pounds (1.88 kg). Some of the best laptops for drone video editing we’ve recommended weigh even more. To put the GS65 Stealth Thin’s weight in perspective, the Razer Blade Pro 17 is 6.60 pounds (2.75kg), and the Lenovo Legion Y7000 Gaming Laptop weighs 9.15 pounds (4.15 kg).

The ports on the GS65 Stealth are aplenty. On the right side, there are a USB Type-C port with Thunderbolt 3, one USB Type-A port, an HDMI port, a mini DisplayPort connection and a power connector.  The left edge holds head and microphone jacks, two USB Type-A ports, and an Ethernet jack.

You’ll enjoy using the laptops keyboard as the keys are responsive with good travel. Worthy-of-note is the Stealth Thin’s keys which are individually backlit. You can tweek the colours and patterns to suit your needs as you would on the Razer Blade Stealth (2019).

Armed with an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 GPU, 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, the Microsoft Surface Book 2 stands toe-to-toe with the best laptops for drone video editing.

Of course, it ships with a powerful Intel Core i7 processor. With this, your render and export times will improve noticeably. In addition, the Core i7 will make running special effects plugins effortless.

The Surface Book 2 has a good selection of ports for connecting to external displays using the DisplayPort standard, lightning-fast external drives, and pretty much any USB peripheral.

The ports on the 2-in-1 are: two USB 3.1 ports, one USB 3.1 Type-C port, two Surface Connect ports, an SD card reader, and a 3.5 mm headphone jack.

If you are a media pro and a heavy gamer as well, the Microsoft Surface Book 2 will serve you well. Microsoft was smart to put the Xbox Wireless radio which makes connecting Xbox One controllers seamless.

With regard to weight, the Surface Book lightweight at 4.2 pounds.

As for battery life, you’ll get around seven hours out of the laptop from a single charge, if not more.

Unfortunately, the Surface Book 2’s speakers remain its Achilles’ heel. The speakers are a bit of a letdown. The Surface Book 2’s speakers do not pump amazing sound as the 2018 MacBook Air, the Apple MacBook Pro with Touch Bar (2018), and the Razer Blade Stealth (2019).

Lenovo Legion Y7000

best laptops for drone video editing

Elegant design, beautiful display, superfast processors, and a solid overall performance are the hallmarks of the Legion Y7000.

The Lenovo Legion Y7000 is very fast thanks to the combination of Intel Core i7-8750H processor, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060, 16GB of RAM, a combination of 1TB HDD and 256 SSD of storage it is shipped with.

The laptop is 9.15 pounds and has a 10.2 x 14.88 x 0.87-inch footprint. The Legion Y7000 is the heaviest laptop for drone video editing on our list. If weight is one of your main concerns, you should probably lean toward the Microsoft Surface Book 2 (4.2 pounds), Dell XPS 15 (4.3 pounds), or Razer Blade Pro 17 (6.06 pounds).

Every port you could reasonably expect is on this powerful laptop. The back holds most of the ports including one USB 3.1 port, one USB Type-C port, one HDMI port, a Mini DisplayPort, power jack, a Kensington lock slot and an Ethernet port.  The right edge has a single USB 3.1 port, while an audio connection and a USB 3.1 port are on the left side of the laptop.

As with most powerful gaming laptops, it will not last you through a full day of video editing and other CPU-intensive tasks without visiting a wall plug. You should get at least 5 hours per charge.

If you’re going use the laptop for light tasks only, then the Lenovo Legion Y7000’s battery will last even longer on a single charge.

Still, we recommend moving with your power pack if you intend using the laptop for extended periods.

The biggest drawback here is the poor audio quality. Nonetheless, we don’t see this as a red flag.

The Lenovo Legion Y7000 is highly recommended as one of the best laptops for drone video editing.
