If you’re already invested in the Apple ecosystem, the MacBook Pro is your best bet.

The MacBook Pro is a perfect fit for biochemistry majors who need a high-end, ultra-powerful laptop capable of taking on both simple and processor-intensive computing tasks.

best laptops for biochemistry majors

Check Price on Amazon

Another good laptop for biochemistry majors deserving of note is the Lenovo Yoga C930.

The convertible Yoga C930 has a 360-degree hinge design which makes it easy for anyone to use it either as a laptop or tablet. The speaker system is built into the 360-degree hinge.

You wouldn’t expect anything less than an Intel Core i7 on a premium laptop like this. As expected, the C930 ticks this box: its CPU is powered by Intel’s Core i7-8550U.

A newer version of the Yoga C930 is the Yoga C940 which boasts excellent specs, including an Intel Core i7-9750H processor, 16GB of RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650, and 512GB SSD.

But what is the Lenovo Yoga C930’s performance like? The Yoga C930 handles Word processing, Excel, video streaming, playing light games, and processing of light image files without issues. Performance falls down only when handling power- intensive games and working with processor-demanding graphics programs.

Two thunderbolt 3 USB-C ports for fast charging and transfer of data, one standard USB 3.0 port and a headphone jack which are on the left side are the only ports the laptop has. You could charge your phone via the USB 3.0 port even when the C930 is not powered on. It does not have an SD card slot and HDMI.

As with the most premium laptops, the C930’s audio quality is top-notch. But the bass could be better.

One outstanding feature of the Lenovo Yoga C930 is its battery life. With a 60Wh battery, it beats other 2-in-1 laptops in the same league. It can withstand approximately 12 hours of constant web browsing via Wi-Fi with brightness at 150 nits when it is not plugged in.

7. LG Gram 17

best laptops for biochemistry students

Check Price on Amazon

LG’s Gram 17 is a good laptop that packs tons of performance at a relatively reasonable price.

No matter which configuration of the LG Gram 17 you get, you’ll have 16GB of RAM – that’s more than enough for handling the computing needs of biochemistry majors.

Elsewhere, the laptop comes with a Core i7 processor and 512GB of SSD storage.

There’s a sufficient array of ports and connections. The ports on the left side are a USB-A, an HDMI-out, a charging port and a USB-C. Like the USB-C ports on the Lenovo Flex 5, you can also charge the LG Gram 17 using the USB-C port. The right side has a microSD, a lock and two USB-A ports.

The LG Gram 17 is totable enough at 2.95 pounds.

An A+ for the keyboard and touchpad. The chiclet keyboard has a balanced amount of key travel with a satisfying bounce, making for a pleasant typing experience. It’s worth noting, as well, that the LG Gram has a numpad, which makes typing numbers comfier.

Again, on the plus side, the LG Gram 17 sports a beautiful display.

LG isn’t skimping on the battery with the Gram17; the 80Wh cell (previous model had 72Wh) offers excellent endurance.

However, there are some trade-offs. First, the bottom-firing speakers are a bit of a letdown – flat and lacking in bass. Not a deal breaker, but worth bearing in mind. Second, a few users might bemoan the absence of a touchscreen on the LG Gram 17.

The minor drawback aside, using the LG Gram 17 is a joy. We recommend the LG Gram 17 as one of the best laptops for biochemistry majors.
