Asus is one of the laptop manufacturers well-known for churning out good chromebooks. The Asus Chhromebook Flip C434 is a decently-priced, good-looking 2-in-1 that works quite great and feels like a premium laptop.

Asus has made a significant design improvement over the previously released Chromebook Flip C302CA. It looks far better than the C302CA and has a flashy, premium mate-silver aluminum exterior which bears the same similarities to most modern pricey laptops.
The panels are surrounded by thin bezels. A 720p webcam can be found at the top bezel. As you might know, the webcam is less than impressive. The display touchscreen is perfect.
On a positive note, it is strong and lightweight, weighing 3.2 pounds (1.45kg), but not as lightweight as the 2019 Dell XPS 13 (2.7 pounds, 1.23 kg), 2018 MacBook Air (2.76 pounds, 1.25 kg), and 2019 Razer Blade Stealth which weighs 2.82 pounds (1.28 kg). The C434 weighs a bit more than its predecessor – the Flip C302CA.
All USB-C ports on the Chromebook Flip C434 support charging.
You can turn the C434 360 degrees into a tablet. The slightly curved edges give it a modern look.
With the Chromebook Flip C434, you get an assortment of ports: a microSD card slot and a USB-C port on the right edge. The left side of this convertible has a USB 3.1 Type A port, a headphone jack and another USB-C port. All USB-C ports support charging.
The laptop’s MU-MIMO 801.11ac WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0 make wireless connection excellent.
A noticeable design feature of this 2-in-1 is its hinge. The hinge remains firm no matter how you flip the C434. Generally, the laptop is durable. With the hinge, the keyboard can be inclined at a suitable angle in a way that makes typing a joy.
There are rubber supports at the bottom which keep the device stable on a table. You may not be able to open this Chromebook easily with one hand without having to support it with a second hand.
The Chromebook Flip C434 isn’t detachable like the HP Chromebook x2.
Buying Guide: Lenovo Yoga C930 Review
- 14-inch 1980 x 1080 pixels display
For a device in this price range, the C434’s 14-inch touch display is sharp and bright, however, there are high-end laptops with better displays. The outgoing C302CA sports a 12.5-inch display.
The panel’s brightness maxes out at 286 nits. For comparison, laptops like the 13-inch 2018 MacBook Pro (500nits), MateBook X Pro (458 nits), and Lenovo Yoga C930 (273 nits) have better brightness. The C434’s predecessor, Chromebook Flip C302CA, does even better at 292 nits.
The Glossy finish of the panel causes glare, especially when you use the laptop outdoors. You won’t have issues using it in a room with normal brightness.

- Intel Core m3-8100Y, Core i5-8200Y or Core i7-8500Y
- 4GB or 8GB RAM
- 64GB or 128GB Storage
The entry model is shipped with Intel Core m3-8100Y processor, 4GB of RAM and 64 GB SSD. There are higher variants with Core i5 and Core i7 which afford you 8GB RAM and 128GB storage. These models are more expensive and offer higher processing speeds than the base model.
Asus Chromebook Flip is not a replacement for a tablet. If you need a tablet, get a tablet. In fact it looks and feels awkward as a tablet; don’t bother trying to hold it as a tablet!
You can play less CPU-tasking games on the Chromebook C434.
This 2-in-1’s performance is not comparable to the Dell XPS 13 or Apple’s MacBooks. Yes, it can get you through easy day-to-day computing tasks perfectly. But that’s where the good news ends. It can’t handle heavy 4K photo and video editing jobs.
ASUS C434 can serve casual gamers because less CPU-tasking games like Crossy Road, Asphalt 8 are a breeze on this convertible.
With the entry-level model which packs a 4GB RAM, you may not be able to work on lots of applications at a time, without issues.

Keyboard and Touchpad
- Island-style keyboard
Asus has included an impressive island-style keyboard on the Flip C434. The backlit keys on this two-in-one have good travel, at least better than the 2018 MacBook Pro’s keys. The key spacing is reasonable, too.
It’s worth noting, as well, that the keyboard has the same color (i.e., silver) as the body of the laptop. This implies that the keyboard characters may not easily be identified if you are in a room with little lightning.
The Trackpad on the Flip C434 isn’t the best you would find on a laptop.
The trackpad is made of plastic, unlike the glass most trackpads are made of these days. It looks premium, but it isn’t at all. The keyboard is excellent, we agree, but we are not sold on the trackpad.
Don’t Miss: Razer Blade Stealth (2019) Review
The budget-friendly Flip C434 has speakers which you will find at the bottom. Sound is not one of the strengths of this laptop. This doesn’t mean that the audio is terrible, either.
To be fair, the speakers will give you clear sound, however, the bass is just average. The sound can fill a room, no doubt.
- Up to 10 hours
In practice, you might get about 10 hours on a single charge – this is in line with what is on paper. Having said that, the battery duration depends on the tasks you are performing on the Asus C434.
Setting the display brightness to “auto” helps prolong the battery power.
Charging the laptop takes roughly one hour, thanks to the USB-C charger. This reduces your plugged-in time considerably.
Software and Warranty
- Chrome OS
- 1 year warranty
Chrome OS and some Android apps like Google Play Store, are pre-installed on the Flip C434. Be warned: some apps, when open, may not fill your display completely.
All Chromebook C434 purchases come with a one-year warranty.
The Asus Chromebook Flip C434 is one of the cheapest mid-range Google-powered laptops. It offers great performance, therefore a must-buy for budget-minded laptop users.
